Anestis Gourgiotis is an Assistant Professor of Spatial Planning at the Department of Spatial, Urban Planning and Regional Development of the University of Thessaly. He studied spatial planning at the University of Bordeaux in France, and did his PhD from the University of Thessaly, Department of Spatial, Urban Planning and Regional Development.
He was the Director of the Spatial Planning Department of the Ministry of Environment and Energy and Head of the Department of Special Spatial Frameworks of the same Directorate.
He is vice president of the of the Metropolitan Council Planning of Ministry of Environment and Energy. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Hellenic Association of Business Parks (ESEPPA).
During the years 2002 to 2005 he was the National Representative of the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Public Works at the Council of the European Union in Brussels. He represented the Ministry of Environment and Energy at the European Conference of Ministers responsible for Spatial/Regional Planning (CEMAT). In the past he was a representative of the working groups of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). He has worked as a scientific consultant for the preparation and organization of international conferences, and during the years 1995-1996 worked as a research associate at UNESCO, in Paris.
In 2016, he received a scholarship from the French Government for his training at the National School of Public Administration in France (Ecole Nationale de l’Administration-ENA).
